MCM: Jesse Williams' real magic #staywoke

“Just because we are magic does not mean we are not real” was how our MCM Jesse Williams ended his speech last night at the BET Awards when he was receiving his Humanitarian Award for his activism. There is no debate about the fact that Jesse is a handsome creation. You and I cannot even start to describe how beautiful his eyes are. But the most attractive thing about Jesse is his kind heart and how smart he is. The speech he gave during last light’s speech was gold. I felt a crown placed on my head when he said “This award is also for the black women in particular who have spent their lives nurturing everyone before themselves -- we can and will do better for you. Not to make it about us but black women are not celebrated as much as they should. Although I did not watch the BET Awards because I was busy between Sanchez and GOT finale, I will have to catch the highlights. Come Backstage to see my favorite looks from the red carpet and what we are talking about.

We need more guys with Jesse’s heart and smarts and if they look as good as he does with an appreciation for black women then they can strut up and down my runway. “The thing is though, all of us here are getting money, that alone isn’t going to stop this. Dedicating our lives to getting money just to give it right back to put someone’s brand on our body -- when we spent centuries praying with brands on our bodies, and now we pray to get paid for brands on our bodies?” Jesse said in his speech.

He has been an active participant in the Black Lives Matter movement and if his award is not proof, his check his Twitter. In October 2014, he joined protests in Ferguson, Missouri to protest the shooting of Michael Brown. He also acted and produced Stay Woke, a documentary about the movement in May and has written about Black Lives Matter. Okay, I know that these are serious issues that need to change like yesterday but there is nothing sexier than a man who wants and works to bring change.

Watch the video and don’t forget to come Backstage. What are your thoughts?
